This is the wine you've been waiting for!

"With an extra year in bottle this brilliant Shiraz has opened up nicely and started to fulfil the considerable promise I saw last year. There is a lot happening in the elegantly structured palate. Firm tanins are so fine with the silky oak lending weight to the final feel in the mouth. Warm, ripe and fleshy." Ray Jordan: The West Australian 94/100

James Halliday: Australian Wine Companion 2012           94/100    'outstanding'

"Crimson-purple; an attractive bouquet with abundant blackberry fruit and well-integrated French oak; the full-bodied palate has depth and power to the black fruits and ripe tannins. A thoroughly impressive wine with a throughly impressive show record in '10" James Halliday 2012

RESERVE SHIRAZ 2008

The 2008 Reserve Shiraz is more elegant and delicate than the last couple of vintages.
The grapes for this Shiraz are all estate grown, careful vineyard management and controlled yields ensure the very best fruit.

This elegant Shiraz has a lovely dark purple hue with sweet spice, cherry and a hint of shaved chocolate on the nose. The palate displays falvours of blackcurrant, cherry and coffee essence, finishing with fine, grain tannins.

After fermentation in small batch open top fermenters, the wine spent 13 months in carefully selected new French oak barrels to enhance the pallet structure without masking the varietal fruit flavours.

The West Australian's Ray Jordan 'This is something of a departure from previous vintages in that it has clearly been made with some longer term aging in mind. The structure is firm and quite tight with firm tanins, grainy oak and powerful fruit. It's a very classy shiraz with savoury cedary aromas. long controlled palate will improve with age.
Score: 89/100
Cellar: 7 years

Drink now or if you can age it anytime up to 8 years... I know it will be fantastic then!

RESERVE SHIRAZ 2009
This wine is looking fantastic, we hadn't looked at it for a while, but did after it cleaned up at the WA Wine Shows....it isn't released yet, as it will continue to age & develop in the bottle. We're looking at releasing it in Autumn in time for Winter 2011.

2009 is looking like the best vintage ever for red wine in the Swan Valley, (its not just us that are saying that, even those who've lived here forever are too) the 2008 spring was really cool which led to a great growing season for our Shiraz.

The West Australian's Ray Jordan 'I have been a fan of the Upper Reach shiraz for some years. This is one of the more restrained and reserved yet there is a lot happening in the elegantly structured palate. Firm tanins are so fine with the silky oak lending weight to the final feel in the mouth. A wine with excellent cellaring potential.

Score: 94/100

This is the wine that Derek (the winemaker) drinks heaps of, he loves making it and he loves drinking it. What else can I say .....and when he realises there's only a bit left.......!

We've been tasting the 2004 Shiraz in the Cellar Door over the last couple of weekends, 2004 was also a lighter year and that wine is looking great. It is nice to try the two more delicate years together, mind you who doesn't love a vetical tasting!

Food Match: Slow Roasted Lamb Shanks, Beef Cheeks, Rich Seafood Bouillabaisse.

The 2006 Shiraz

This is a fabulous wine, its drinking really well right now, today.

However I'd advocate keeping it for another 5 years or so...the problem is its really nice...!

The 2003 Shiraz

I opened one of my personal bottles of this recently, its drinking perfectly now. So if you've got some of our 2003 squirrelled away, do dig it out and start to think about when you'll drink it.

The 2003 is very much a food wine, the nose shows spicy chocolate, aniseed and licourice, its got a really rich, concentrated palate with great blackberry flavours.
